I saw a post on the internet that talks about the differences between riding a bike and a horse. Then this question occurred to me: why is cycling gear so ugly when horse riding gear is classy and stylish? I am not grown in a place that has many horses, but I do know something about riding a horse.

Horses are hairy and smelly.
They evacuate pretty lethal stuff out of their rear end.
Horse riding can be very physical and can make you sweat if you are riding hard.
Horse riding is very bumpy and is notorious for saddle soreness.
Horses are often ridden on the road.
And yet horse riding specific clothing is very stylish–smart riding boots, jodhpurs, a shirt and tie, a riding jacket and a velvet riding helmet.
Then the situation is totally different for bikers.
Bicycles are clean, they aren’t hairy and don’t smell.
They don’t shit.
You can sweat if you ride hard.
Bicycles are not very bumpy but you do move your legs more than with horse riding.
Traffic cone fluoro is often promoted as essential when riding on the road.
Cycling specific clothing is very unstylish – tight cycling shoes, padded lycra shorts, skin tight lycra top, fluoro everything and a polystyrene cycling helmet.

Then here is my question: Why is horse riding specific clothing so much more stylish than cycling specific gear? Why do horse riders not think it essential to wear padded shorts when ‘serious’ cyclists obviously do? Why the cycling clothes can’t be more stylish like horse gears?
Therefore, which do you prefer, riding a horse or riding a bike?
